Canyon Road
Canyon Road is a charming, meandering street rising east from Paseo de Peralta through art galleries, restaurants, shops, and historic buildings some dating back more than 100 years towards the Cristo Rey Church. In 2007, Canyon Road was named one of ten Great Streets in America by the American Planning Association due to creative planning, zoning and preservation programs that have preserved and nurtured its rich local culture. The “Top of Canyon Road” has also been recently feature in the Sunset Magazine using a new catch phrase “TOCA” with some amusement by locals. On Christmas Eve, farolitos line the narrow street for an annual tribute with Santa Feans and visitors walking to enjoy the galleries, drinking hot cocoa or cider offered along the route. Canyon Road features a variety of architecture from Spanish-Pueblo Revival and American territorial style. Many of the original homes along Canyon Road have been converted into galleries, studios, restaurants and bars. |
